We would like to thank 50 years of devoted writers, editors, photographers, yearbook team, and staff for their dedication making all these yearbooks possible. The yearbooks chronicle a snippet of time, growing up through the teenage years, and are a part of Woodroffe history.
You will note that there is no yearbook for 1970-1971, however the reason is not known. The 2008-2009 yearbook is currently in print and will be added when it is available. THE ORIGIN OF THE NAME “WOODROFFE” 1961 YEARBOOK “The Nepean community of Woodroffe (spelled Woodroofe in the early records that Mr. Walker has consulted) was named after the farm of Capt. George W. Baker, an early Ottawa postmaster, magistrate and councilor. Capt. Baker had his farm in the present Woodroffe area. According to Lucien Brault, he was appointed Ottawa postmaster in 1834. Mr. Walker’s records indicate that Capt. Baker named his local farm in honour of the family estate in Ireland. The first Woodroffe post office wasn’t established until 1905 although there was talk of establishing one at least 20 years earlier.” |
