It is always difficult to lose a loved one. On this page, we would like to honour those friends, family, students and staff who have been a part of our lives in some special way. Their memory and spirit are embraced by those whose lives they have touched.

Below the flowers, click on grey link " Add a memorial".

Please note, that to ensure there are no errors made in the memoriams, that just a first and last name name without any further information will not be added to the website.

We remember you...

Gary graduated from Woodroffe in June of 1966. He then successfully completed his first year at Carleton University and died as a result of a single car accident in May of 1967. Gary was bright, reserved, and had a dry sense of humour. He might have invented the pc ahead of Bill Gates.

To my dear life long friend..we met in grade one and walked to school everyday together from elementary school, junior high to our days at Woodroffe.

Tony Anderson (Kuntz)

Twelve years ago many of us lost an  old friend,  Ben and Jessica lost their mother, Lois and Carol Anne lost their sister.  Those of us who knew Tony will remember her as a fun-loving girl who was the life of the party. She was a risk-taker who loved to live on the edge and have a great time.
The softer side of Tony was one of kindheartedness and generosity.
   We miss you Tony .

A dedicated husband, father, son, brother, uncle and a wonderful friend. Lived life to the fullest. Passed away peacefully after water skiing with his family. I still remember inviting you over for drinks the night before it happened but you had plans to go to Joyce's, swim, and have drinks with your Mom instead. In retrospect I thank God you chose to be with her.
Your quick wit always made you fun to be around. Our son carries your name Rod. We still miss you. Love always from your best friends - Rick and Sue (Robertson) Deschamps

Wendy Booth (Cronk)

February 22nd, 1947 to February 7th, 2009

Wendy Booth (Cronk) is my beloved Sister.  I am deeply honoured to be Wendy's brother.  Wendy's passion for photography lives on in her photos, books & post cards at BoothPhotos.com & CanadianGreetingCards.ca Her impact on those around her shows through the following quote from Wendy's obituary Guest Book:
" July 30, 2009

The entire staff at Wallack’s would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this wonderful woman.

We have worked with Wendy for the last 15+ years and in that time have gotten to know her as a dedicated, patient, loving and talented artist, mother, grandmother and friend. Her photographs have brought so much joy (and laughter) to everyone who has had the opportunity to view her work and we feel fortunate to have gotten to work with her so closely. Her loving smile and outgoing nature will be greatly missed by all of us.

Thanks Wendy."

Forever missed.

Anne Bremner (Wentzell) (Bremner)

1957 to 1990

Dearest Anne,

Woodroffe High School's 50th reunion will be a bittersweet reminder of the wonderful times that we shared together and that you are no longer with us.

You were a loyal friend who was loved by many and who made my high school years so enjoyable. We will toast your lively spirit and sense of humour in May and we will fondly remember your contagious laughter that will echo down the halls of Woodroffe High School forever.

God bless you.

With love,

Your friend,
Cathy

Connie Bridges

Connie was popular and loved by all when she suddenly died riding her beloved horse. Her death was the first wake up call, early into my school life. Unfortunately, others followed, thankfully, not many. We remember you, and your wonderful parents Connie.

Billy Cairns

April 23rd, 1950 to April 7th, 1979

Sadly Billy passed away in Edmonton, Alberta, April 7, 1979 at the young age of 29. He attended Woodroffe for a short period of time.

There's a face that's with me ever,
There's a voice I long to hear,
There's a smile I'll remember forever,
Though I try to forget every tear,
There's a sad, but sweet, remembrance,
There's a memory fond and true,
There's a token of affection, Billy,
And heartache still for you.
Love forever, sister Lynne

Connie Campbell

Connie was a good friend, of my good friend Connie Bridges.  That both amazing girls are now gone is so sad.  Love to you both xoxo

Tom Comba

- to -

"TC" died much too young after a long battle with cancer. Our 'Fonz'  was the leader of the pack in those remarkable 'Happy Days' of our youth. TC, our dear friend, held the best parties, as well as lead 'black-out' sessions - perhaps the first group psychology sessions of the 60s!, in his parents  Rec Room, the infamous "Sin Bin". Best to let Tom, the poet, say it best. From  his poem "Promises"
"... Reach way back to friendships held so dear, across the ages of withered dreams, formed from smiles and fears.
Renew your dreams! Live life as the valiant youth you were! While any of you live, the promises live on, keeping the promises cements a mind-youth connection"

Bruce Currie

Bruce was not a close friend, but he shared a locker close by mine and some classes. He was handsome in a dashing, happy go lucky way.  Always smiling, extremely kind, good natured, and caring.  He had a sense of goodwill to all, even those not "part of the bigger group or the in crowd".  I'm sure he left a footprint on many peoples hearts.  He did with mine.

Bruce Currie

April 30th, 1956 to January 11th, 1986

Tragically,  Bruce was killed as a result of a propane gas explosion while dining in the Villeneuve Castle restaurant in Picton, Ontario.  All 15 other patrons survived including his longtime girlfriend Joanne Bones.   He is buried in Capital Memorial Gardens in Ottawa South next to his Mother and Father as well as his Sister Dawn and Aunts Kaye and Ollie and his maternal grandparents.

Bruce is lovingly remembered for his fantastic sense of humour,  his big heart, his love of cars  and his optomistic love of life.

I miss him everyday but I keep his memory alive by staying in close touch with Joanne.  I also named my son Devon Bruce after him.

Bruce was simply a "swell" guy.

Your loving sister Cheryl

Jim Dale

March 1st, 1955 to October 20th, 1988

Jim Graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with first class honours at Carleton University and then went on to work for Systemhouse Ltd.

Jim lived his life to the fullest! He loved hanging out with his friends, watching and playing sports, listening to music and traveling. He had an artistic flair in photography and in stained glass.

Although Jim did not have a long life, he accomplished remarkable things through his education and work, his music and friendships that spanned all generations. His unwavering commitment to live a full life, influenced many people that he met along his journey.

I am thankful for the short time I had with Jim, and I know that he made an impact on others as well as my life. I love him with all my heart and I cherish the wonderful memories we had together.

Jim lost his battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

John Fogarty

February 23rd, 1953 to July 19th, 1973

After we moved to Ottawa from New Brunswick, John attended Woodroffe for his Grade 13 during the 1970-71 year.  Although, he was in his fifth year of Hodgkins Disease and was adjusting to the change in school systems, John did as he always did and thrived with academics, immersed himself into political interests and hoped his fellow classmates would see him for more than the gaunt 6'5 guy who walked amongst them.

After a year off before university being sick, John did his first year at Carleton hoping to follow his passions for mathematics and journalism.  He particularly enjoyed carpooling with Peter Green (Larry Green's older brother) and a few other guys whose names I don't have.  Thank you guys for letting my brother truly enjoy and pursue his life.  I should have thanked you 37 years ago but I was a distraught 14 year old little sister at the memorial service.

Marilyn Fortington (White)

November 26th, 1946 to October 16th, 1998

David Goodall

November 19th, 1946 to March 20th, 2010

After graduation in 1965 David joined the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) Canada and was posted to Cyprus as part of the UN Peace Keeping Force during his 3 years in the army.   He moved west in the 1970s working in the mines in Northern Manitoba then with CN Railway and later for a security service in Winnipeg while periodically visiting family in Vancouver, Ottawa and London.

David  probably was not in contact with any of his Woodroffe friends  but always sent his family a Christmas card except in 2009, so we knew that something was wrong.  In January we were told that David had terminal cancer so his sisters Penny and Kathy flew to Winnipeg to help him settle his affairs and make arrangements for him to spend his last few months in his home.   Richard, Judy and Penny met in Winnipeg in March to settle their brother's estate and take his ashes back to Ottawa.

Our older brother David was not always communicative but he will still be missed by his 5 siblings and 10 nieces and nephews.

SCOTT GOODERHAM

SCOTT LEFT US TOO SOON

HE LOVED LITERATURE, FASHION, AND FRIENDS.  HE WAS BEST OF FRIENDS WITH MICHAEL GILMORE.
I LOVED HIS SMILE AND HIS FASHION SKETCHES.
HE WAS AHEAD OF HIS TIME AND WOULD HAVE BECOME A VERY GREAT FASHION DESIGNER.

TOO BAD HE PASSED AWAY SO EARLY, BECAUSE I AM CERTAIN HE WOULD HAVE BECOME THE OTHER OSCAR DE LA RENTA!!!.

IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR US STUDENTS WHO KNEW HIM WELL, TO LOSE SUCH A FRIEND WHO THOUGHT HE JUST DID NOT FIT IN.  HIGH SCHOOL YEARS ARE THE HARDEST ON SOME OF US, THAT WE KNOW AS WE ARE NOW OLDER.

REST IN PEACE MY DEAR SCOTT.  I THINK OF YOU EACH DAY!!! AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS!!!

Peter Gray

1954 to 1976

Graduation...1973...Peter asked me to the "prom"...I flatlly refused,( not being the "prom" kinda gal)... without hesitation he asked "how about Monty Python at the NAC".... now that brought a smile to my face.
Picked me up in a  very large convertible, complete with dingle balls and great music....Best date ever!!!
Remembering you Peter...you left us way too soon...
Kim Narraway

Dan (Bumper) Greenwood

October 10th, 1960 to December 12th, 2007

Danny Danny Danny!!!
To many including myself you were also Bumper or Bump, but knowing you from a kid you will always be little Danny Greenwood.
We grew up together from our early days playing for the Jets....many great times and a ton of laughs. No matter how often we were in contact I always new you were a real friend. I miss your sense of humour and your deep mischevious chuckle.

Maureen and I were at the Sens playoff game the other night and made a toast to you. Those many years we shared tickets - you never sat in our seats as you were always schmoozzing in a box.

What I wouldn't give to hear you say  "God luv yu", "I hear ya"  "Go big or stay home".

First beer at the creek will be in your honour

We miss you buddy

Mark Kelly

1963 to 2002

I wrote this poem for my friends Mark and Cathy:

From day one

It seemed a dream

When you walked into my life

I changed

My heart was filled with happiness

My thoughts were filled with you

From day one

I knew it was true

That you would stay with me forever

Somehow I knew

That the passion we share together

Will not fade with distance

Or through time

Because you're a part of me

And I'm a part of you

From day one

I stood beside you

As I will throughout my life

To let the world know

I hold your heart with love

And you with love hold mine...

John was a great friend to many, and never ceased to put a smile on someones face.
With  quick thinking, intelligence and the ability to light up a room John was destined for many big things but left us way too early.
I still miss you my friend.

James (Jimmy) Limebeer

June 10th, 1953 to 1984

James (Jimmy) might be best known for his beautiful blue eyes, his deep dimples and deep voice, and for playing the French Horn in the Junior and Senior Bands.  He went on to play in the military marching band.

What most people may not know is that he taught himself how to play the French Horn and had no "official" or professional training.

He also taught himself German.  He loved  building things, including his own kayak, unfortunately that was one of the few things that were not successful.  He was an avid fan of the original "Star Trek" and although quite serious in nature he just loved life.

He died suddenly in October 1984, leaving behind a widow, father, mother, sister (Pauline who also went to Woodroffe) and two brothers.

Atlhough its been more than 25 years since that tragic day, I know you are still missed.

Peace be with you always James.

Your friend and former neighbour, Patricia Rose

Kathy had 2 sisters the younger one Heidi attended Woodroffe as well. NOTE: I am not sure of the deceased date.

Robert 'Mak' Makohoniuk

March 31st, 1960 to August 4th, 1999

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Jacob Malomet

November 30th, 1959 to April 10th, 1978

Jacob, my "cool"  brother was a popular student at Woodroffe highschool in the 70s. Despite a cancer diagnosis, he lived life to the fullest, balancing an active social life, playing trumpet in the band, and excelling at his schoolwork to graduate an Ontario Scholar and continue at Queens in Engineering. Jacob left us 18 forever frozen in time as a teenager ready to take on whatever life presented him.
I still hear from his friends who tell me to this day, they miss him.

Brent Ostrom

From Wyvern 72-73

This is no eulogy
Nor is it a remembrance
For even those written in stone
Have been known to be forgotten
This may be the easing of a collective conscience
Or just a comment on something beyond our understanding
A lot of tears were cried that night, and after
But then, like somebody said
Maybe life is just a moment
And what comes before
And what follows
Is infinite
But I guess you'd know all about that
Anyway, we all have our own memories of you
And no one can take away a memory
Well, I guess this is just to say Hello
And that we think of you a lot

For you Brent

From all of us.

Ann Thomson

1958 to 1995

Dear Ann,

You will be sadly missed at our high school reunion, an event that you would have enjoyed so much.

Thank you for the years of friendship, the good times that we shared, the laughter and the tears. Your bright blue eyes, your radiant  smile, your happy round face and your gift to find humour in every situation are dearly missed. You left us far too soon but your spirit lives on in our memories. We know that you are in a better place, where there is  no pain, only joy, peace and beauty., dear "Jo".

We miss you, dear friend.

Love Cathy ("Lou") and your school friends.

You will never be forgotten.

Ian Thomson

- to -

How could I have forgotten Ian?  It's less than a week before the  Woody's 2010 Reunion, still he’s never lost in my memories and we weren't close friends, though our paths crossed until the end.

Ian came to Woody, I think in the fall of 1962, graduating in the Class of 1967. Then he did what he apparently, had always wanted to do (but never spoke of to me), go to RMC. (#8871, 16 nos. less than my own.)

After graduation from RMC in 1971, Ian was commissioned into the Navy and started his career in Communications and Media Relations.  During Canada's Peace Keeping deployment to the Golan Heights' and other parts of the Middle East, he kept us all informed as spokesman for the UN Canadian's.  Later we saw him in Bosnia.

Ian retired from the Forces as a LCdr. to become Mgr., CN Public Affairs Ontario, where he again continued to help and provide assistance to people and communities. He made many friends wherever he went.  Ian helped people, asking nothing in return!  This was repeatedly noted by people from far reaching communities across Ontario, at his funeral. I've attended a lot of funerals; for young and old alike, but never have I witnessed such affection and kindness as I saw at Ian's Funeral.

Ian married Laurie late in life, but he loved her dearly. They were Soul Mates!  She cared for him to the end.

Ian was a great guy, a quiet guy, an unassuming guy, but as in everything, such as a football, he was a guy we could always count on (you just didn't want to be on the opposing line.), all traits he exhibited throughout his life.

Larry Wallace

Class of 1968

Larry passed away in late November, 2003 – far too young! He would have loved to be taking part in the reunion and being with his old friends, of which there are many. He embraced fully the spirit and friendship offered at Woodroffe; high school was one of his favourite life experiences.

Throughout high school, university, and afterwards, Larry was a loyal friend, and he willingly offered help in many ways to many people. He inherited this trait from his parents and was encouraged by his sisters. The whole family was a treat to be near.

Larry would even give you the shirt off his back, as he did when we were having pictures taken in grade 12. One of us did not have the “right” coloured shirt for the shot, so Larry took off his and lent to his hapless friend. It was a little tight for the bigger of the two, but it did look good. That picture has endearing meaning these days.

It is sad not to have him here with us, but think of him and smile at your own memories of those wonderful Woody days.

Peter Xhignesse

May 18th, 1955 to October 22nd, 1988

Those of us that knew Peter, know how much he loved life, his family and friends. Blackcomb Mountains "Xhiggy's Meadow" is an appropriate memorial to Pete as anyone who has enjoyed a few turns there and knew him would attest to. I think of him often.
