What a great weekend! Everything was wonderful. Would  like to have seen a few  more teachers but couldn't  catch up with them. Sounds like F874Driday was the best night to hook up with people. We will know next time.
I was amazed at the food service and it's quality. AJ'S you were above and beyond. Hats off. All of you that pull this great event are wonderful and I hope that you are putting your feet up this week. Woody's current students were polite and VERY helpful. Glad to see that Woodroff is still a high standard school.
Hope to be around for the next one. Thank you again for a great weekend

I would also like to extend my congratulations to the Woodroffe Reunion Committee for their excellence in planning, organizing and coordinating this event.  Very well done!  It was an unbelievable success!  I am sure it exceeded everyone's expectations - pub night was fantastic, Saturdays dinner / dance was a highlight and the food - what can one say, it was just great.  Please extend my thanks and appreciation to everyone on the committee for a job well done.

The opportunity to rekindle old ties with people who at one point in time were very much part of your life.....and still are, should  not be forgotten.  It is sad that it takes an event like this in order to have an excuse to connect with old friends.  Life is just too short and we should not wait another 25 years....what is wrong with having another reunion in 10 years.  You now have an excellent data base of names, contacts, logistics and so on.....I know even more would attend the next event. The word is out.

Again, congratulations and thanks!

I had a nice time on Saturday (day) of the reunion and was thrilled to re-connect with Diane Brottman, who btw looks better now than in high school, Rob Relyea, Jill Curd, Bob Stark, Ruth Reyno, Gary Harris etc.  It was so much fun.  Only wish the decades rooms didn't close at 3 p.m.  Also, I did not see one teacher.  Apparently, my teachers Schlemmer, Norman, Ault etc. had been at the Friday night pub (which I missed).  I have been told that FRIDAY was the best night to attend  the reunion.  I wish I would have known that.  Not too many from my year went Saturday night.  In fact, one person who had bought a ticket decided not to go, since she didn't know anyone else going.  Thank goodness weather was superb.

Organizing committee
I can't thank you enough, an absolute fantastic job,  To stimulate memories, the return of near lost memories of great times shared with great people.  To provide the opportunity to thank some of the teachers that built the  strength ofcharacter to take on new challenges.  To my teachers who were unable to attend, you were missed and I thank you,. A common theme of the conversations was how lucky we were to have been mentored by enthusiastic teachers.

A special thanks to the organizers of the 60's room, it triggered a lot of happy memories.
Cheers

It was a real pleasure to attend the reunion on Friday night. The weather was out of this world. How great it was to re connect with some of those I spent my high school years with. Finding out how well they had done makes you feel (we were a great generation). I do not think I will be around for the 75th but you never know. All the best to those who did attend. It was worth it.

Congratulations to the Committee for organizing a fantastic reunion and for all your hard work!  And thanks to all who attended!  I didn't see as much from my '80s years as I would have liked, but I had the pleasure of meeting some great new people from all the decades.

Kudos to all the current students who helped out!  It was great to sit with some of you and chat about the school!

Had a great time also chatting with my old (or not so old?) teachers and I cried when Mr. Manley conducted the alumni band (wish I had remembered enough of the clarinet to join in..).  Mr. Roche, Mr. Brake, Mr. Katic - it was great to see you all again!

I want to say thank you to all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes and who put in so much time and effort in organizing this event, and to all the volunteers who were on site on Friday and Saturday both days and nights who helped keep things running smoothly for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.  It was awesome.

It was so great to see so many of my former classmates.  We may be getting older but the alternative is too depressing to think about.  Besides I think we all look pretty
d@mn good.

To those of you who have lost love ones who went to Woody, my heart goes out to you.  When I read the "In Memoriam" I reliaze we lost too many, too soon, who were too young.

For many of us the next reunion if in 25 years might prove to be a bit of a challenge - but hey who's not up for a good challenge.

I would really like to stay in touch with as many as my reunion mates as possible.  Hopefully this site will stay up for awhile and we'll be able to stay "connected".

Love sincerely, live happily, laugh often.  Best wishes to all.

Patricia Rose :)

This weekend was certainly special and irrepalceable. The highlight for me of course was going to "band practice" for the first time in 34 years. When Mr. Manley came out, those of us who had him as Band Leader in the 70s gave him a standing ovation. We were the best back then!  and he hadn't lost his magic touch. I felt so overwhelmed to sit on the same stage that we had played on for concerts  and commencements. It felt like yesterday, even if some of our embouchures and technique were a bit rusty.

*Thank-you Ruth Merkel for orchestrating Woody's version of Mr. Holland's opus and answering my many e-mails about the music--I finally got it.

*Thanks to the young musicians who accompanied us. You're as good as we were back then!  Thank-you too Mr. Milne for being there. It was so nice to see you too!.

*Mr. Pointen burned up the dance floor (see below) and  got on his dance card to do the twist. Yeah baby yeah!

*Thanks to Carmen Rush who organized the 70s room! A Carmen. Thanks to all the other organziers, you put together a well thought out event, with something for everyone

The food was awesome and the entertainment stellar.  You should all be very proud of this event!

I hope at the 75th, there will be more people from the 80's.  It was pretty lonely for the ones that came.

I am glad to have seen the friends I knew and happier yet to have made acquaintance with those I have just met this weekend.

May your life be filled wit happiness and may you be lucky enough to notice.

12E Class of 1966 - sorry I can't be at this event but my son Evan is graduating from Grade 12 on Sat.  My daughter Emily is at SFU but presently travelling in SE Asia.  I'm one of those "mature mothers" having kids at age 40 and 44 . . . too busy travelling the world in my 20s and 30s (Australia, NZ, UK, Europe, overland to Katmandu, etc.).  Settled in Whistler, BC since 1974 and married in 1985 to Don from Edmonton (yes, we survived the 2010 Olympics).  Love to hear from friends I've lost contact with: Lynda Harrison. Penny Riddell and Joanne Appleby or anyone else who remembers me.  My friends Ron & Heather (Duncan) Cairns will be at the reunion as well as my brother Richard Goodall.  I'm flying to Ottawa June 24 for my nephew's wedding so could maybe meet up with you the following week  . . . Hi to my fellow Woodroffe mates.  I'm looking forward to this reunion.  It's hard to believe that Woodroffe has been around for 50 years.  It's harder yet to believe that I left there almost 38 years ago.  Where has the time gone?  In my mind I still see myself as 18 - I do have a great imagination. I guess the good news about getting old, is not dying young, as so many of our fellow classmates have, it also means that the rest of you are getting old too. Since my hair is still platinum blond/white (as it was back in the 70’s) I’m sure I’ll now have lots of company (lol).

I was at the 25th reunion, and I couldn’t pass up coming to this one, even if for only part of the weekend. The next one may be a little more difficult to attend as I plan on moving out to B.C. next year. I’m really looking forward to seeing former classmates, friends and teachers. It will be interesting to see if all the “clicks” have remained in tact, or if they’ll pick up where they left off. Meow!! (lol).

See you at the reunion.

With the reunion not far off, I have been thinking about my days at Woodroffe High.  While I did not perform that well academically, I think I excelled socially and I'm looking forward to seeing my former classmates.  My fondest memories include lunches at Peter's Pantry and El Toro, parties at the creek, the football and hockey games, and many great parties.   I had a wonderful time at the 25th reunion, and I know that this one will be just as great.  Thanks to the committee for all your hard work.

1960 seems like just the other day.
Woodroffe was in the middle of a field. Only the main road in was free of sticky mud (as the smokers would remember) It was the best of times. Mr Merkley and Mr McGilvery were the always attentive supreme commanders that kept us all from trouble and yes taught us in the process. I hope to attend at least on Friday but maybe on Sunday too if there are enough of my chums there to meet and greet. I look forward to catching up with all my friends

Thank you to Diane Roy who let me know of this anniversary -- but after the first excitement and anticipation, I will be missing this as luck would have it, conflicting events

A reminescent hello to the volleyball and basketball team members from '62-67!  those early morning practices still remind my body to groan -- even after all these years

I would enjoy hearing from classmates --

It has been so many years since high school.  I remember the dances and playing volleyball.  I attended from 1963 to 1966.
My favorite teacher was Mr. Fenton.  He taught bookkeeping and I learned a lot from him.  So much so that a bookeeper is what I have been for the last 40 years.  Oh my god. 40 years. Ouch. I hope to re-connect with some old classmates, but to be perfectly frank, I don't remember too many.  They probably won't remember me anyway.  I was painfully shy and did not connect with too many people.  Oh well maybe seeing people from back then will refresh my memory.  I am really looking forward to this re-union and will see you all there.

I graduated in 1965 attended the 25th reunion with my husband Brian Houlihan and my Brother in law Patrick Houlihan who was in the first graduating class of 1964. I did not see a lot of fellow class mates at the 25th hope to see some at the 50th. I have all the year books from 1962 to 1967 and keep trying to match up names from those registered not too many at last count hope to see more at the reunion week end.

I had registered but am now going to be in South Africa during reunion time on a work assignment. I only went to Woodroffe for two years (63 to 65) but have terrific memories. To all of my friends in 9G and 10H - have a ball. I would have loved to have seen you as well as Mr. Manley and all my mates from the junior and senior bands. I'm purchasing a CD so smile! See you at the 75th. Cheers. Gord

Relect back on how we were and how society was some 50 years ago.  Things were different but not necessarily better.  Woodroffe high was still under construction, Jack Kennedy was yet to be elected, the Vietnam war was developing and we were all younge thinner and in my case had more hair.  My high school years for me were not easy, I was growing up and I was no scholar.
We had some great teachers who could forget white soxs Jim Prebble I thought he was cool, or Mr. Cyze (Mike) from Paris ON or Covette Thomas and JJ Tokaryk who bouced me from senior choir because I could not sing - still can't and oh yes Mr. Edward Davies and his ties.  There so many others I feel I am doing them a disservice by not mentioning them.  Hope to see as many former teachers and class mates as can attend in May.

Adim Padim, the student protest on the lawn, girls got to wear pant-suits, auditorium Kung Fu Fighting and other shows, fashion shows, the common room (cards *EUCHRE*), "the Creek", our football team, auitorium events and Spirit Week, nominating Head Boys and Girls!  Mr. Gilchrist, for English and Drama.  I can't wait to see old faces and restoke old memories.  I was at Woodroffe for all 5 years and it was the best!

Where are all the Classmates of 63, 64 and 65 and the teachers of those first 5 years gone.  In those years we were all younger but I have great memories of some crazy and good times.
Does any one remember the sox-hop and the song Hit the Road Jack when we dedicted it to Mr. Merkley in fun and how angry he got?  I think I made that dedication or at least cc31I think I did.

In October 1970, a group of 60 students staged a “sit-out” on the back lawn of the high school. The Ottawa Journal cited this as “the first major open confrontation on an Ottawa secondary school campus”. Police were called at one point as students hurled insults and profanity at their teachers and principal. The students were protesting “inhumane treatment and petty rules”. The ringleader of the protest had been expelled the previous day for failing to obey a school rule to stay inside the school during a study period. Students cited other irritants including rules regarding boys’ hair length, that students had to raise their hands in class to ask to go to the washroom (and were sometimes denied permission), and that a jacket and tie was the dress code for school dance night. The following text from the Ottawa Journal is amusing now, although it probably was not at the time:You're right it was not amusing

Fond memories of Woodroffe High School, Mr. Merkley, Miss McCullough and Mr. Barrett. Living in Arizona in the White Mountains and managing a small resort. Think about old friends and don't get the chance to go back home very often. Moved to British Columbia and worked at Silver Star Mountain Ski Area before moving to the US 20 years ago.
I wish you all the best at your 50th Reuinion, and hope to see lots of photo's and memories after the event. What a great place and a great High School, how lucky we were to share that time in the late 60's. It was the best, the very best. Wish I could be there. nd thanks to those teachers who made such a great impression and impact on my life. I feel I succeeded because of you!
Sincerely,
Wendy Forsyth Shellabarger

Even though I only went to Woodroffe for one year (Grade 12 - 1971-1972), I enjoyed seeing the people I knew from Pinecrest. All these years, I thought I had graduated, but found out last year that I didnt. I was missing one credit in English which I hated. Sadly, there are a couple of people that I wont see at the reunion, Rod Beveridge and Bev Holtom that passed away over the last few years.

I Have just finished reading the History-A Look Back and it brought back alot of memories. I attended Woody from 67 until 72 (4 year course) that I took my time at. I remember the common room(SMOKING ROOM) in the tunnel and an outdoor spot we called the Cancer tree which was at the end of the west wing. The strike was a fun day  we finally got to wear jeans as a result of it. It was a great period of time to be a teenager, drinking age had dropped in Quebec from 21 to 18 and Ontario follwed soon after. I worked at the Royal Burger, Carling and Woodroffe. And have just recently ran into others that worked there as well and went to Woody. Really looking forwrd to May

Hope all are well.
I went to Algonquin for a month after Woodroffe.
Left for Calgary...stayed for a year working with CP Express.
Left for Yukon and Alaska for work but came back to Ottawa.
Worked for 4 years in the Arctic with Dome Petroleum.
Went to Toronto as my brother lived there and I wanted to try and write and play music.
I lucked into a job with UofT and have been there for 25 years. I work in one of the libraries.
Married twice...divorced twice...one amazing 13 year old daughter.
Now...i'm a vegetarian, no TV, still play guitar and sing, hand drumming, photography, computer graphics and yoga and meditation.

Enjoy the party everyone.  :)
Thanks to all the Woodroffe staff who reached out to help me. Much appreciated. Not an easy job.

Hi from the valley to Alberta. Hardly wait for the reunion. I'll be back. Graduated in early 70's. Do u all recall our push to cleanup Ottawa from pollution & students cleaned up ditches, sides of roads & culverts to truck it all to the War Memorial, center Ottawa, as Woody's pack. We sang & chanted just like at our football games. Even made the paper in stories & photos. Then we respectfully cleaned after ourselves & took it all to the dump. It was the start for Pollution Probe. Woody's youth certainly got government attention & good response.  One of those never forget times as most days were at Woodroffe!
